Well, it's been a year.
Feb. 4th, 2012 09:20 pm1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment. (That way you're not leading the questions asked to fit the characters.)
2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments.
For example:
'1, 9 and 15 are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from 4. Do they succeed?'
'Under what circumstances might 5 and 7 fall in love?'
3)After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.
Dear friends: QUESTIONS PLZ?

Wave over wave
Mar. 23rd, 2011 12:32 pmOK, I am officially putting this journal on hiatus. Again. I may be back in a week or a few months, I don't know. I may come back with a new journal name. Anyway, whatever happens, I'll let you know, but if you don't hear from me for a bit it doesn't mean that I've dropped off the face of the earth.
Basically: my mom is very ill. The words "hospice care" were mentioned. There is an extremely high likelihood I may have to be in California for a bit.
I know I don't exactly have great upkeep on this place anyway, but not having it on my mind is just one bit of stress removed, and I could do with that.
See you guys in better days.

HELLO WORLD
Jul. 23rd, 2010 12:48 pmHello all! I guess I'm using this journal again, herp derp. And what better way to re-inaugurate it than by the time-honoured tradition of MEME!

I laughed because it's true.
(Yes, it has giant transforming robots in, but it holds up even if you're not a fanboy.)

Recs, anyone?
Jun. 9th, 2009 11:32 amLast night was pretty good; I went to my monthly swimming group and ended up in the pub chatting with a new swimmer (Kat, I think, though I'm so crap with names I'm probably wrong) about science fiction.
She asked me for recommendations, as she's recently got into SF, and I sort of stood there slackjawed for a while as I realised that I've...not really been reading much of it, except Iain M Banks, and she already had a book of his in her backpack; she's also already read Le Guin. I ended up saying Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Octavia Butler and Julian May, because they were my intro to SF. Does anyone have any recommendations, for both of us?
esque also got me a signed poster of Guillermo del Toro, with whom the lucky bastard spent several hours last night (no, not like that). Envy~
I am really ridiculously tired, though. I don't know if it's just because I've not yet gotten used to the summer sunrise schedule yet or what. I got a normal amount of sleep last night, I just...feel like I haven't. Weird.

A hypothetical.
Jun. 8th, 2009 04:37 pmOkay you guys. Consider a largely film-based fandom. At which hypothetical book purchase does one cross the line from 'fanboy' to 'just sad'?
* This doesn't actually exist. Uh. I hope.
- The 'art of the film' book?
- The 'illustrated companion'?
- The novelization?
- 'Extended universe' type novels?
- The junior novelization?
- Those books with stickers and 'fun activities'?
- Kid-only adaptations? I'm thinking...Bedtime with Batman* or something.

I are student!
Jun. 7th, 2009 01:21 pmSo, a few weeks ago my first Open University course came to an end; I was doing this introductory course, which...well, I enjoyed some parts of it and really didn't like others, but I think that's quite normal for such a wide-ranging introductory course. For a little at the end of it, I didn't think I wanted to continue studying, but now I've pepped up on it a bit and I've registered for a creative writing course, mostly to kick my own butt in taking my writing seriously.
Then I followed a link to "short courses you might like" and they popped this one up; how cool is that? I don't think I'll register for it now, as starting two courses and NaNoWriMo around the same time seems really unwise, but next year I am totally signing up.

Jun. 6th, 2009 03:56 pmA vague recollection of the retro version plus the appeal of a low-budget evil Optimus Prime led me to watch an episode of what is possibly the worst show EVER.
I am sorry if any of you are fans, but...really. Oh my god. You guys. If they'd had this show when I was twelve I guarantee it would have been the best guilty pleasure ever for me, but now I just have to stand back in awe of how bad it is.

Jun. 1st, 2009 04:23 pmCharacter survey.
fascination gave me Spock.
1.) Do you like this character?
I do, yes. Before the recent reboot, I liked him less for himself than as an archetypal Star Trek character, though. I grew up on Next Generation, and Spock was always a bit distant to me -- like a benevolent elder statesman, but not someone you could have a raktajino with. Now, I can see his appeal more clearly, and I'm starting to like him for him.
2.) What name(s) do you call this character?
...Spock? Mr. Spock when I'm feeling formal or facetious or both.
3.) What image / colour do you associate with this character?
All shades of blue.
4.) What song do you associate with this character?
The Star Trek theme, I guess?
5.) What blood type do you think this character is?
GREEN. Seriously you guys, I never liked these blood type/star sign type questions.
6.) From all of the titles that feature this character, what other character do you think makes a good pairing with this character?
Well, Kirk, obviously. Not just because it's Trek slash orthodoxy, but because I think they're actually pretty well suited to each other. I like the whole balance of opposites thing with them. They wouldn't work as a monogamous couple, though. At least not on Kirk's side.
7.) What would you want to say to this character?
"Live long and prosper", since he wouldn't say it to himself.
8.) What do you want to do with this character?
Crew on the Enterprise with him! I think I'd either get on his nerves or get along with him really well, or both, since I've got a bit of Kirkishness in me.
9.) Please choose five friends with your choice of character.
Comment and I'll tag you with a character. Feel free to give me more, too, I love these kind of memes.
...I just realised I have no Star Trek icons. SCANDAL.

A conversation held with my boyfriend last night, on the differences between summer blockbusters with robots in:
"So one has giant robots, the other has...regular-size robots?"
"I dunno, some of the Terminators in the new film are pretty huge."
"Okay, so one has robots that turn into other stuff."
"Dude, remember the T-1000?"
"Right. I got it. One has a sexy cast, the other has Christian Bale?"
"Come on! I defy you to even name anyone other than Shia in the Transformers cast."
"I wasn't talking about the human cast."
"..."
"Hey, if thinking giant robots that turn into cars are hot is wrong, I don't want to be right."
"...you should change your journal title to that."

Assortment of random crap, in list form.
May. 27th, 2009 12:05 pm- Recently I've noticed that there is a circle right under my chin, about an inch and a half in diameter, where no hair grows -- a bald spot in my neckbeard stubble. What the hell? It's like I've been given electrolysis in my sleep.
- My mother is coming to visit tomorrow. It's the first time I've seen her since February 2008, so we've got lots of catching up to do. Must remember to clean up a bit tonight. Underwear lurking in corners does not a mother-friendly house make.
- So I gave Transformers: Animated another chance, because...well, I was bored, it was a bank holiday, and I was procrastinating on my essay. I have to say, I kind of like it. I still think some executive pointed at Gargoyles and said "get me something like that!" (I imagine this exec looking a bit like J. Jonah Jameson, complete with cigar), but it did keep me watching for five episodes straight. It's shiny brain candy, especially for a brain that's been going all GIANT ROBOT lately.
- In semi-related news, further procrastination and
beexsam have conspired to produce 2,700 words of a WIP interspecies robot romance fanfic.
- Yesterday, I actually voted for an act in Britain's Got Talent. You can all mock me now.
- If you weren't already mocking me for the robot romance, that is.
